McDugal’s Woodworks is the shop of Joe Quinlan, a Northern Michigan maker creating one-of-a-kind pens, kitchen tools, sewing tools, bottle stoppers, letter openers, and scrollsaw pieces from carefully selected woods, burls, resin, and handmade blanks.

Every item is individually turned, finished, and assembled by hand. No two pieces are exactly alike, which means the item you choose is not just another product off a shelf — it has its own grain, character, and story.

I work with a mix of domestic hardwoods, exotic woods, spalted grain, burl, resin, and custom blanks to create useful pieces with uncommon character. Some are built for daily use. Some are made to be gifted. All of them are made to be noticed.
